Chamber Fosters Senior Cat Named Sunkist

It is not part of our mission statement, but the Englewood Chamber of Commerce is excited to care for and welcome “Sunkist” as their mascot.  The senior cat is available for adoption through EARS (Englewood Animal Rescue Sanctuary).  This idea was the brainchild of Membership Coordinator, Kim Parks.  “I love cats and knew having a ‘chamber cat’ would create a fun work atmosphere for the volunteers and when I saw Sunkist online, I knew she would be perfect to help promote our coastal community”.   Sunkist is almost 11 years old and is a female orange tabby.  Orange cats tend to be more friendly towards people and they have a reputation for being cuddly, friendly, and affectionate.  So far Sunkist checks all those boxes. Sunkist is also unique that she is a female.  Up to 80% of orange tabbies are male, making Sunkist a bit of a rarity.    Executive Director, Doug Izzo warmed up to the idea when he realized how much having a “Chamber Cat” would help promote EARS and spotlight their mission.  There is a collection box in the lobby to support Sunkist and EARS.  Any cat or dog items including food, litter and toys are welcome and will be given to the non-profit organization. The Chamber welcomes visitors to stop by Monday through Friday and meet the Chamber cat and even snap a “Sunkist Selfie”.

EARS is a volunteer-based organization that receives no government subsidies.  Funding comes from monetary donations, receipts from their thrift and pet store and fund-raising events.  Their mission is to rescue, shelter and care for abandoned, abused, lost and stray cats and dogs until they are adopted in a forever home.

It has been my pleasure to meet and spend time with Sunki8st at the Englewood Chamber. She is loving & cuddly, I wish I could adopt her but my dog at home does not share the same feelings.
Thank you Doug, Kim and Deb for taking Sunkist in, loving, caring & sharing her. This is the best Chamber and I’m proud to be a member of such a wonderful organization.
