Destination Dearborn
Come down to Dearborn Street on Saturday, May 6 to vote for the new sculpture installation at Englewood Beach AND sample tasty treats and refreshments from around the world!
As a result of the devastation left by Hurricane Ian, Leadership Englewood Class of 2023 decided to take a new approach to the class legacy project – one that is multi-faceted and focused on impacting the Englewood community through hands-on outreach.
The project’s first phase was a series of three waterway clean-up events in 55+ communities. In collaboration with event partners, Leadership Englewood was able to remove over 19,000 pounds of debris from Englewood waterways. These efforts renewed a number of neighborhoods and restored the peace SWFL brings to those who call Englewood home. The next phase is the selection of an artist to create a sculpture at Englewood Beach. This sculpture will not only memorialize the efforts of our waterway clean-ups, but the resilience of the whole community of Englewood embodied through the recovery of Hurricane Ian.
The selection process will take place on Dearborn Street on May 6 from 2-5 PM. Several Chamber businesses are participating (Joe Maxx Coffee, Ivy’s on Dearborn, Xpertech, Suncoast Central Realty, StyleCraft Cabinetry, Sisters Unique Boutique, Green Artist, Elsie Quirk Public Library, Paradise Exclusive/Hesse Team, Project Phoenix, Englewood Moose). Each location will have a food and/or beverage sample of a country/state.
In addition, some of the locations will feature an artist rendering of their vision of the sculpture to be installed at Englewood Beach. Also featured will be kid’s artwork from both Englewood Elementary and The Island School.
Your $5.00 passport can be purchased at one of the “Customs” Check-In stops – located at Stylecraft Cabinetry, Englewood Moose, and Suncoast Central Realty. Your passport allows you 5 votes in the community sculpture voting event – in addition to the tasty treats and refreshments our local businesses are providing!! Once you have visited all the artist renderings and received your stamps, return your passport to “Customs”.
Furthermore, your fully stamped passport will be submitted for a drawing. The winner of the drawing will receive a 4×8 brick with their engraving of choice at the sculpture!
