Lemon Bay Fest: Sarasota County’s Gilded Age Connections

Sarasota County Historical Resources Manager, Dr. Josh Goodman will take us through an in-depth look into a fascinating chapter in our local and regional history. America’s Gilded Age was a fast-paced era of growth and change at the end of the 1800’s. Industrialization and new technology made it possible for people like Henry Flagler, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. Morgan to make huge fortunes, hence the “gilded” part. Sarasota was barely on the map when the Gilded Age began, and yet the entire county’s destiny was profoundly shaped by events and personalities from this exciting period.

Lemon Bay Fest programs are sponsored by the Friends of Elsie Quirk Library.
