The “Secret Society of Smoked Mullets” has chosen the 2016 winner, but it’s a secret until the annual Smoked Mullet Luncheon to be held Friday, June 24, 2016, at The Gulf View Grille on Beach Rd., where 2015 winner Esther Ainger Horton will announce this year’s winner.

Those nominated this year are Mrs. Sydney Buffum, Fred Beck, Eric Fogo, Carolyn Pope, Carol Tate, Gary Schroeder, and Edith Wright.

The luncheon, co-hosted by the Englewood Florida Chamber of Commerce, will feature Robert Bedford, Principal at Lemon Bay High School as the speaker, on the early history of Englewood’s high school. Sharyn Lonsdale will be the Master of Ceremonies.

The Secret Society of Smoked Mullets was started in 1996 by then Chamber President, Nita (Edmondson) Cole. “The intention is to honor people from the past who helped create the Englewood we have today – people who have probably never been recognized with an award for their hard work and dedication in the past,” explains Nita Cole.
